2018-20 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 recalled for wiring fault

1413 performance SUVs could suffer from chafed starter motor wiring, potentially leading to a fire.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 1413 examples of the 2018-20 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63.

According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), "a short circuit impacting the vehicle's electronic system may occur if the positive wiring to the starter motor becomes chafed.

"This wiring may become chafed as a result of regular vehicle use.

"Depending on the type of short circuit, there may be a risk of fire, and/or the engine may not be able to be restarted once it has been shut down. This increases the risk of an accident, which may cause injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users," it continues.

All 1413 affected GLC 63 vehicles were sold between 4 March 2018 and 28 March 2020, with all models stamped Model Year 2018, 2019 or 2020.

A full list of all affected vehicle identification numbers can be found here.
