2019 Nissan Juke recalled for airbag deployment fault

The small SUV's airbag deployment system could be compromised, according to the manufacturer.

Nissan Australia has recalled 56 examples of its Juke small SUV, citing a potential fault with the airbag deployment system.

The affected vehicles were sold between 31 July 2019 and 25 November 2020, but manufactured between April 2019 and May 2019.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “The heat shield may not be in the proper position around the front driver airbag's inflator. When the airbag is triggered, hot gas may damage the airbag material or cause the airbag to tear.”

“If the airbag is damaged or torn, there is an increased risk of injury and or death to vehicle occupants in the event of accident that triggers the airbag,” the notice continued.

A spokesperson for Nissan Australia told CarAdvice: "Whilst no market incidences have been reported, Nissan has decided to replace the drivers airbag module of all potentially affected vehicles to protect our customers from this potential concern."

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 56 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
