Hennessey Mammoth 1000 SUV: Seven-seat Ram 1500 TRX unveiled with 755kW

Supercharged V8 ute given the SUV treatment by American tuner Hennessey, with 755kW and seven seats.

US muscle and supercar tuner Hennessey has unveiled the 2021 Hennessey Mammoth 1000 SUV, a seven-seat off-roader based on the dune-jumping Ram 1500 TRX performance pick-up.

Powering the Mammoth 1000 is the donor Ram 1500 TRX's 6.2-litre supercharged V8, retuned and reworked by Hennessey to develop 755kW (1012hp) and 1314Nm – significant increases over the 'standard' TRX ute's 523kW and 880Nm.

Extracting the additional kilowatts are a range of under-bonnet upgrades, including a larger 2.65-litre supercharger, unique engine tuning, upgraded supercharger pulleys, and high-flow catalytic converters, fuel injectors and air intake system.

Hennessey claims a 3.2-second sprint from zero to 60mph (97km/h), and an 11.4-second quarter-mile (402m) time (at 193km/h) – notable decreases over the showroom-specification TRX's 4.5-second 0-60mph time and 12.9-second quarter-mile claim (at 174km/h).

Key to the Mammoth 1000-specific upgrades is a full five-door SUV conversion, which sees the pick-up's roofline extended to cover the tray, with large windows letting light in on each side.

A folding third row of seats fills the space previously used to haul loads, combining with a pair of 'captain's chairs' in the second row for a family-friendly total of seven seats.

Other exterior highlights include the fitment of a 'Mammoth Off-Road Package', which adds a 2.5-inch suspension lift (63.5mm), a unique hooped front bumper with an integrated LED light strip, a front suspension levelling kit, and 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 35-inch (889mm) off-road tyres.

Just 20 Hennessey Mammoth 1000 SUV vehicles will be built, each featuring a three-year/58,000-km warranty, and priced from US$375,000 (AU$483,000) before taxes and shipping – a sizeable increase over its pick-up donor's US$71,990 (AU$93,000) sticker.

While right-hand-drive converted versions of the Ram 1500 TRX pick-up will go on sale in Australia later in 2021, no Australian plans for the Mammoth 1000 SUV have been announced – though it's possible local Hennessey distributor KPM Motorsport could offer the package at a later date.
