2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series leaked again in clearer detail

The hotly-anticipated four-wheel-drive has been spied again, this time in clearer detail, and in a range of new colours and specifications.

The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series has leaked once again, ahead of its full global reveal in the coming weeks or months.

Following last week's round of leaks, over a dozen images were posted online by Instagram user @shomegranbill on Sunday, with the new photos – understood to have been snapped at a Toyota shipping yard – showcasing the new LandCruiser 300 Series in a number of model variants, from a selection of different angles.

Whereas previous leaked images concentrated on higher-spec variants riding on larger alloy wheels, the new images reveal the full-size off-roader in entry-level and mid-spec guises, with more affordable models featuring 17-inch steel wheels, a matte black grille, and tweaked LED headlight clusters.

It's thought many of the LandCruiser examples pictured are bound for Middle Eastern markets, given the placement of their steering wheels on the left side of the vehicle, and the fitment of a 'GX.R' badge on one example – a nameplate currently employed exclusively in the United Arab Emirates and other countries in the Middle East.

As a result, there's a chance the front and rear fascias fitted to the 300 Series vehicles could be exclusive to the Middle East, as is the case with the outgoing 200 Series.

Models sold in Australia, Japan and other markets could therefore score unique front and rear bumpers, possibly reshaped to increase ground clearance for off-road environments – a key point of contention regarding last week's leaked images among numerous CarAdvice readers and commenters.

The photos confirm a single-pane, non-panoramic sunroof will be offered on flagship models – rumoured to be badged ZX in Japan, or Sahara ZX in Australia – along with 20-inch alloy wheels, front and rear LED lights, and chrome trim on the side skirts and front fog light surrounds.

White, silver, black and red exterior paints will be offered, as part of a colour palette broadly similar to the outgoing 200 Series.

Everything else we know about the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series

While you can click the links above for our previous coverage of everything we know about the new LandCruiser 300 Series, here's a rundown of the key information you need to know:

  • Rumours widely suggest the 200 Series' 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 will be replaced by a new 3.3-litre turbo-diesel engine, which Japan's Creative311 reports will be a V6 developing 227kW and 687Nm – up 27kW and 37Nm over the V8.
  • A 309kW/587Nm twin-turbo petrol V6 is rumoured to be offered in other markets, while a hybrid LandCruiser model is slated to arrive in a few years' time.
  • Inside, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation will feature, along with a 7.0-inch instrument display, leather trim, and metallic switchgear.
  • Available safety technologies are reported to include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, traffic-sign recognition and more.
  • Low-range modes, locking differentials and other off-road features are set to be available.
  • Reports and leaks suggest a hardcore GR-S variant will also be offered, tuned by Toyota's Gazoo Racing performance division with rugged bumpers, 18-inch alloy wheels and larger tyres.

Given the minimal shipping wrap and sheer quantity of vehicles spied in these images, production of the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series appears to have started, at least for left-hand-drive markets – months ahead of the early-to-mid-July dates reported in Japanese media, though this timeframe could still remain for right-hand-drive countries including Australia.

It's now highly likely the new LandCruiser 300 Series will be unveiled officially in the coming weeks, given the minimum shipping times needed to transport these vehicles from the Japanese storage yard in which they were spied, to the Middle Eastern dealerships that they're rumoured to be bound for.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest.
