2022 BMW iX3: Pre-order books open, first deliveries due late 2021

German brand's electric mid-size SUV now available to pre-order, though prices have yet to be announced.

The 2022 BMW iX3 electric SUV is now available to reserve in Australia, ahead of first local deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2021 – though pricing has yet to be announced.

Interested buyers can place a $500 deposit on an iX3 via the BMW Shop website, with reservation holders then able to specify their vehicle through their selected BMW dealer later in 2021, ahead of first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter of the year (October to December inclusive).

The latest fourth-quarter arrival timing represents a delay of three to six months over when the electric SUV was first slated to reach Australian shores, around the middle of 2021.

Pricing and specification details have yet to be confirmed, however the brand promises they will be made available closer to launch – likely early in the second half of the year.

Unveiled in July 2020, the iX3 ties with the larger iX for the title of BMW's first electric SUV, given both models are due in local showrooms around the same time.

Like the 4 Series-based i4 four-door coupe due locally in early 2022, the iX3 is a battery-powered version of the German brand's popular X3 mid-size SUV, employing a 210kW/400Nm electric motor on the rear axle and a 74kWh lithium-ion battery for an all-electric range of 460km on Europe's WLTP test cycle.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for full Australian pricing and specification details of the 2022 BMW iX3 as its local launch approaches towards the end of the year.
