2021 Ford Ranger price and specs: 4×2 XL Sport variant added alongside range-wide tech and engine upgrades

Ford’s powerful bi-turbo engine option is available for the first time in Ranger XL variants.


The 2021 Ford Ranger line-up has been expanded with the introduction of a new 4x2 XL Sport dual cab variant (shown above).

Meanwhile, the existing Ranger 4x4 XL Heavy Duty Special Edition has received significant upgrades, adaptive cruise control now comes standard on all Ranger XLT variants, and 4x4 XL models are now available with Ford’s powerful bi-turbo powertrain option for the first time.

The new 2021 Ford Ranger 4x2 XL Sport dual cab is priced from $43,790 plus on road costs, and features black 16-inch alloys, a sports bar, black tub-liner, side steps, a black grille, and ‘Sport’ badging.

Drive comes from a turbocharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 118kW and 385Nm. This is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford Ranger XL 4x4 Heavy Duty Special Edition (shown above) – available only in arctic white, and priced from $52,790 plus on-road costs – has also been upgraded, and now features a factory-fitted bull bar, snorkel, black 17-inch steel wheels, heavy-duty suspension, and a rear-view camera kit as standard (these were previously offered across two seperate option packages).

Adaptive cruise control – which allows the vehicle to 'latch' on to the car in front and maintain a safe distance – now comes standard on all Ranger XLT Series pick-ups.

Ranger XL 4x4 variants are now for the first time available with the 2.0-litre bi-turbo powertrain option.

As the most powerful engine in the line-up, the bi-turbo puts out 157kW/500Nm. This is sent to the ground via a 10-speed automatic transmission
