2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series leaked: This is it! UPDATE

It's here! The new LandCruiser 300 Series has leaked, thanks to images out of Japan.

UPDATE, 23 April 2021: The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series has leaked again.

Following images of a group of LandCruiser models sitting at a shipping yard last night, Toyota's upcoming flagship four-wheel-drive has been shown yet again in this close-up photo, posted by the Kurdistan Automotive Blog.

A second image shows a number of LandCruiser models being transported by truck, giving us the best look yet at the car's rear-end.

Our original story continues below.

This is it! Meet the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series free of camouflage, thanks to a pair of leaked images published online this evening.

The new images show a fleet of Toyota's new-generation LandCruiser four-wheel-drives parked in a shipping yard, sitting all but undisguised with only a few sheets of light shipping film covering some vehicles' bonnets.

The photos confirm the validity of leaked assembly drawings published earlier in April 2021, with the off-roader's styling headlined by an upright front end with a rectangular grille, surrounded by LED headlights and a vent-like trim section around the main grille's lower edges.

A bold, double-bulged bonnet hides the combustion engine lurking underneath, while along the sides trapezoidal-like wheel arches and a shallow C-pillar kink can be seen.

Above, top and below: photos posted by Cochespias and Creative311.

On one of the vehicles snapped in the images, large chrome alloy wheels fill the arches – likely the 20-inch aluminium units revealed in the leaked drawings posted earlier this month, indicating we're looking at the range-topping Sahara ZX variant (as rumours suggest it will be called).

We've yet to get an undisguised look at the new LandCruiser's rear-end, however the aforementioned drawings, along with shipping-wrapped images published in February suggest an upright, one-piece tailgate with high-mounted tail-lights slimmer than those fitted to the outgoing 200 Series.

The sighting of an array of undisguised, production-ready 300 Series vehicles suggests a full debut could occur sooner than the August 2021 timeline initially speculated – potentially as soon as the coming weeks.

What else do we know about the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series?

The LandCruiser 300 Series' exterior design leaking in full places one of the final pieces in the puzzle of information about the new four-wheel-drive, joining previously-published details of its engine line-up, interior, and technologies.

Under the bonnet, the 200 Series' 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 will be discontinued in favour of a new 3.3-litre turbo diesel engine, which Japanese publication Creative311 reports will be a V6 developing 227kW and 687Nm – healthy improvements over the outgoing model's 200kW/650Nm.

A 309kW/589Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 will be offered in other markets, while Toyota has confirmed an electrified hybrid model will arrive at a later date.

Inside the cabin, the LandCruiser 300 Series will undergo significant changes, with the new model rumoured and photographed with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with satellite navigation, a 7.0-inch digital display in the instrument cluster, and a more modern cabin design with metallic switchgear and leather-trimmed surfaces.

A full suite of active safety features will be available, according to Creative311, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, traffic-sign recognition and automatic high-beams.

Despite taking a technological step forward, the 300 Series won't lose its predecessor's ability off the beaten track, with locking differentials, low-range modes, hill-descent control and many more off-road aids set to be available.

There will even reportedly be a hero GR-S model tuned by Toyota's Gazoo Racing performance division, with smaller 18-inch wheels, rugged bumpers and larger-diameter tyres – all in the name of off-road performance.

It'll form one of five variants available in Japan, Creative311 reports, including a second flagship variant set to be dubbed ZX (or Sahara ZX, as it could be called locally), with 20-inch wheels, full LED lighting, an electric sunroof and a power tailgate – likely one of the variants spied in these images.

The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is expected to make its debut in the coming months, with reports suggesting an unveiling date at any point from April to August 2021.
