2023 Cadillac Lyriq revealed in production guise

Luxury SUV transitions from concept to reality, with LED lighting throughout, a 33-inch dashboard display, and a 483km-plus driving range.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has been officially revealed, ahead of its US launch in the first half of 2022.

First previewed by a 2020 concept of the same name, the Lyriq will launch as Cadillac's first all-electric vehicle, with the large luxury SUV to ride on General Motors' new Ultium modular battery architecture.

Powering the production Lyriq at launch is a 255kW/440Nm electric motor on the rear axle, connected to a 12-module, 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack for an "estimated" driving range of over 483km (300 miles).

An all-wheel-drive 'Performance' model is slated to follow at a later date.

190kW DC fast-charging capacity enables up to 314km of range to be added in 30 minutes, or up to 122km in just 10 minutes. AC charging via a home wallbox is also available, with 84km of range able to be added in one hour on a 19.2kW socket.

Drivers have access to one-pedal driving functionality around town, while the standard-fit Regen on Demand feature allows the level of regenerative braking under deceleration to be varied on the fly using a pressure-sensitive paddle behind the steering wheel.

On the styling front, the concept's appearance has been carried over to production all but unchanged, with the showroom-bound car retaining its forebear's illuminated LED grille elements, ultra-slim headlights with choreographed start-up sequences, flush door handles, and tail-lights extending up into the C-pillar.

However, the show car's camera-based door mirrors have been swapped out for traditional units, while smaller 20- or 22-inch alloy wheels now fill the arches. Satin Steel Metallic and Stellar Black Metallic represent the only available exterior colours at launch.

Inside, a 33-inch LED display spans across much of the dashboard, combining the instrument cluster and infotainment functions into one curved unit capable of emitting over one billion colours.

A floating centre console with a rotary infotainment controller splits the front occupants, while other available features include a 19-speaker AKG Studio sound system (with speakers in the headrests), active noise cancellation, KeyPass digital vehicle access, and a choice of grey or black interior colours.

General Motors' Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system can be optioned, enabling hands-free driving on over 322,000km of mapped North American freeways.

Dimensionally, the Lyriq measures in at 4996mm long, 1977mm wide and 1623mm high, sitting on a 3094mm wheelbase – 56mm shorter overall, 22mm narrower and 61mm lower than a Tesla Model X, but 129mm longer in wheelbase. The Cadillac tips the scales in at a hefty 2545kg.

On the practicality front, 793 litres of boot space can be found behind the rear seats, expanding to 1723 litres with said second row folded.

Independent suspension and Passive Plus dampers are standard on all four corners, as are 321mm front and 345mm brakes.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will enter production at GM's plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee in the first quarter of 2022, with American prices to start from US$59,990 (AU$77,800) – undercutting the entry-level Tesla Model X Long Range by US$20,000 (AU$26,000).

It's unlikely the Lyriq would ever grace GMSV showrooms in Australia, with the model not believed to be in the local arm's future plans.
