GWM Wey Tank 300 Cybertank: Concept off-roader set for Shanghai reveal
The concept off-roader appears to draw strong design inspiration from the Mercedes–Benz G-Wagen.
The Tank 300 Cybertank concept – which appears to be heavily inspired by boxy off-roaders including the Mercedes-Benz G-Class – is set to be unveiled at this week’s Shanghai motor show.
Built by GWM’s luxury subsidiary Wey, the Cybertank is reportedly underpinned by mechanicals from the existing Tank 300 production SUV.
However, it picks up aggressive exterior styling enhancements, roof-mounted solar panels, roof rails, a square spare tyre cover, and an exterior body kit.
Inside the plush cabin, white leather dominates all hard surfaces and is complimented by brushed aluminium highlights.
According to some online reports, the Cybertank retains the standard Tank 300’s 169kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission – though GWM is yet to confirm official specifications.
In 2020 CarAdvice reported GWM was canvassing local demand for the Tank 300, and last month revealed intellectual property applications for the model had been filed with the Australian government’s patent office.
A local launch is yet to be confirmed, however appears likely within the next 12 months.
Haval already offers the large H9 off-roader in Australia, alongside H6 and Jolion medium SUVs, and the H2 small SUV.
