Nissan has partnered with McDonald’s Japan to bundle a new 2022 Nissan GT-R Nismo diecast toy into the Happy Set (Happy Meal) as part of the 2022 production model’s launch.

A McDonald’s-themed version of the updated 2022 GT-R Nismo has been unveiled alongside the promotion announcement, which sees the supercar wrapped in a striking chrome gold, and features the McDonald’s script emblazoned on top of its rear wing.

Other than that, it’s business as usual, with both cars physically and mechanically identical. There is only one McDonald’s GT-R Nismo and it will be used as a marketing tool to celebrate the 2022 specification.

Both the miniature and life-size versions were unveiled simultaneously at the 2022 Nismo GT-R’s launch, with the gold-wrapped car driving out of an oversized Happy Set box alongside its miniature twin.

As for the miniature Tomica version, while most will come in the signature new Stealth Grey colour, a small number of chrome gold examples will be placed in the Happy Set.

Like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket, whoever is lucky enough to win one of the golden GT-Rs will win a special prize – a test drive and ride with a Nissan development driver in the real-life version at Nissan’s Tokyo Grandrive proving ground.

Those who are too young to drive will win a runner-up 1000 yen (AU$11.92) McDonald’s voucher.

Other cars available as part of the promotion include Tomica versions of the Toyota 86, Toyota Crown police car, Suzuki Jimny, Mitsubishi Delica and a Morita fire engine.

The special McDT-R promotion begins on 30 April 2021 and will be available for a limited time only – if you've got friends in Japan, now might be the time to shout them a Happy Meal at Maccas.
