2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron electric SUV and Sportback revealed

Audi's latest electric E-Tron model has been unveiled, with three powertrain options offering up to 520km of range.

The 2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron has been revealed as the latest model in the German luxury car company's electric vehicle push.

Audi offers the Q4 E-Tron in both SUV and Sportback bodies, which are underpinned by the 'MEB' electric architecture shared across Volkswagen Group brands.

Headlining the range is the Q4 E-Tron 50 Quattro, offering 220kW and 460Nm through dual electric motors, sending power to all four wheels for a 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds.

The entry-level 125kW/310Nm Q4 E-Tron 35 and mid-spec 150kW/310Nm Q4 E-Tron 40 use a single electric motor to power the rear wheels, for 0-100km/h times of between 9.0 and 8.5 seconds depending on the variant chosen.

Audi quotes 341km of range from the E-Tron 35's 52kWh battery on the WLTP cycle, while the E-Tron 40 and 50 Quattro each get a 77kWh battery pack offering 520km and 488km of range respectively.

The E-Tron 35 can support fast charging up to 100kW, with 125kW charging available to the 40 and 50 Quattro models. The company says in ideal conditions, the E-Tron 40 can gain 130km of range in around ten minutes of charging.

As the name suggests, the electric Q4 sits between the Audi Q3 and Q5, measuring in at 4590mm long, 1865mm wide, and 1613mm tall for the SUV body. Boot space is 520 litres, or 1490 litres with the 40:20:40 second-row seats folded down.

The Audi Q4 E-Tron SUV body provides a drag coefficient of 0.28, with the Sportback variant cutting through the air with a 0.26 Cd.

Buyers can option matrix LED headlights, with four selectable light signatures available to the driver.

The front brake rotors measure 358mm, hidden behind a set of 19- to 21-inch alloy wheels (depending on the boxes ticked), while the rears get a set of drum brakes – despite the Q4 E-Tron weighing up to 2140kg in its heaviest guise. This is due to the regeneration cycle from the rear electric motor under braking, meaning less mechanical braking force is required.

Inside, occupants get a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with voice control, with an 11.6-inch screen to be made available as an option at a later date. Wireless smartphone charging is also offered.

The driver gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with an augmented-reality head-up display, which virtually overlays navigation symbols and other information on top of the roadway.

The 580W Sonos audio system is fed to 10 speakers via two amplifiers, which uses stereo channels to create a U-shaped, three-dimensional surround sound.

There's a choice of four interior colours: black, grey, brown, or beige. Buyers can also choose from nine equipment packages, each offering different trims, accents, stitching, headlining, and door sill combinations.

Those who opt for the sportier S Line interior can choose between standard natural/synthetic combination leather, premium nappa leather, Dinamica artificial suede, and Puls artificial leather – the latter two which are created from recycled plastics.

Haptic-touch buttons feature on the steering wheel, while seat heating, ventilation, and massage function are all optional. A centre front-seat airbag is standard.

Audi offers eight exterior colours, as well as a number of alloy wheel styles designed to improve aerodynamics and range. The German brand is also offering two different Edition One launch variants to overseas buyers.

The 2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron goes on sale in Europe in June, starting from €41,900 (AU$65,000). No details on an Australian release have been confirmed at this stage.
