  • 20 examples of hydrogen sedan to be available to businesses
  • One fully-loaded variant, with leather trim and dual screens
  • Three-year lease deal equates to $63,000

Australian pricing and specifications for the 2021 Toyota Mirai have been announced.

The second-generation Mirai will hit Australian roads first as part of an "extended demonstration program", which will see 20 vehicles leased by Toyota to "pioneering organisations" and business keen on a low CO2 vehicle.

As a result, there's no public recommended retail price before on-road costs, instead a 36-month/60,000km lease deal (including fuel) with $1750 monthly repayments – equating to $63,000 over the duration of the lease.

A wider launch to the general public could occur in the coming years, pending the construction of new hydrogen refuelling stations.

Powering the hydrogen sedan is a 134kW/300Nm electric motor on the rear axle, driven by a 128kW 330-cell polymer electrolyte fuel-cell stack, three hydrogen storage tanks (offering 5.6kg combined), and a 1.2kWh lithium-ion battery.

A maximum driving range of 650km on Europe's WLTP test cycle is claimed, as is a 9.2-second 0-100km/h time.

The Mirai measures in 4975mm long, 1885mm wide and 1470mm high, with a 2920mm wheelbase. Multi-link suspension is standard front and rear.

One highly-specified Mirai variant will be offered in Australia.

Standard equipment include LED headlights, tail-lights and daytime-running lights, 19-inch alloy wheels (with 235/55 tyres), rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding heated exterior mirrors, rear privacy glass, and a tyre repair kit.

Inside, there's a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and digital radio, plus an 8.0-inch digital instrument display, synthetic leather trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight-way driver and four-way passenger power-adjustable seats, keyless entry and push-button start.

Other interior features include dual-zone climate control, an electric parking brake, 14-speaker JBL premium sound system, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, four USB ports, manual tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, and a soft-touch instrument panel.

Standard active safety features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and support for intersections, adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and speed-sign recognition.

There's also emergency steering assist, auto high-beam, a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags.

Seven exterior colours are available: Arctic White, Tarmac Black, Liquid Metal (silver), Feverish Red, Force Blue, Silver Rush and Dynamic Blue.

Those interested in the 2021 Toyota Mirai can contact their local Toyota dealership, regional fleet manager, or can apply via the Toyota website later this week.
