2011 Ford Fiesta range launched in Australia

Ford has launched the updated 2011 Ford WT Fiesta in Australia, with the introduction of the sedan body style, an expanded diesel engine range and an all-new six-speed automatic transmission among the key additions.

Available as either a five-door hatch or four-door sedan, the Fiesta has four model variants: the entry-level CL, higher-spec LX, sports-focused Zetec and environmentally conscious ECOnetic.

The new 1.6-litre diesel engine is available in the LX sedan and hatch and the Zetec hatch. It is the same unit as the one used in the ECOnetic, minus a few of the extra fuel-saving gadgets.

Teamed with a five-speed manual transmission, it produces 66kW and 200Nm of torque, and returns a combined cycle fuel consumption of 4.4 litres/100km and average CO2 emissions of 117g/km. The ECOnetic manages 3.7 litres/100km combined and 98g/km CO2.

The other engine option – the 1.6-litre petrol engine with 88kW and 151Nm – is unchanged, although is now available across the range with the six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission (standard on the CL sedan, optional on all others except ECOnetic). Petrol-powered Fiestas use 6.1 litres/100km combined and emit 146g/km CO2.

The CL sedan is the only vehicle in the range not to offer a manual option. Zetec and ECOnetic model lines are only available as five-door hatches, while CL and LX come with the sedan option.

All WT Fiesta models come with stability control, traction control, ABS, EBD and brake assist as standard. LX and Zetec variants come with seven airbags as standard (front, side thorax, side curtain and driver’s knee). Only two airbags are standard on the CL, but all seven can be optioned in. Side curtain airbags are not available on the ECOnetic.

Inside, the base model CL now comes with Bluetooth partnered with voice control technology, and includes MP3 player and AUX input connections.

Subtle changes have been made to the interior and exterior design, with nine paint colours and three trim choices now available.

The Fiesta Zetec also scores an all-new sports suspension setup, as well as sports seats.
