2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron SUV and Sportback teased, April 15 debut confirmed

The 2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron electric SUV will be unveiled on 15 April 2021 alongside its coupe-styled Sportback sibling.

The confirmation of the electric SUV duo's shared reveal date was accompanied on Audi's social media pages by a selection of teaser images and videos, including a darkened static shot of the crossovers' side profiles that reveals the pair will differ in styling primarily through the Sportback's coupe-inspired (and, crucially, more aerodynamic) sloping roofline.

While the teasers are light on specific exterior styling, interior design and mechanical details, first drives of a prototype Q4 E-Tron SUV in February 2021 with international media (including CarAdvice) provide a hint at what to expect.

Official photos of a camouflage-wrapped Q4 E-Tron reveal a close resemblance to the 2019 concept of the same name, with a closed-off front grille flanked by high-set LED headlights, an upright side profile enabling a large boot and ample rear passenger headroom, and full-width LED tail-lights inspired by the full-size E-Tron.

Spy photos also confirm the Sportback model will share a similar relationship between the 2020 concept and its production reality.

The 'regular' Q4 E-Tron measures 4590mm long, 1865mm wide and 1613mm high, on a 2760mm wheelbase – exterior dimensions that split the Q3 small and Q5 mid-size SUVs, but with a wheelbase more comparable to the latter.

The concept similarities continue inside the cabin, where the production models pair the equivalent show cars' unique steering wheels and floating lower centre stack with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch (or 10.1-inch standard) infotainment touchscreen with a 'Hey Audi' voice assistant feature.

There's also an augmented-reality head-up display, haptic touch buttons on the steering wheel, and a standard-fit centre airbag between the front seats.

Boot space is rated at 520 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1490 litres with the 40:20:40 second row folded.

Under the skin, buyers will be offered a choice of 52kWh or 77kWh lithium-ion batteries, paired to single-motor, rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configurations.

Sitting atop the launch range will be the Q4 E-Tron 50, pairing two electric motors with the larger battery pack to develop 220kW and 460Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.2 seconds.

Charging with both 125kW DC and 11kW AC is supported on higher-grade models.

Stay tuned to Drive for the 2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron and 2021 Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback's full debut on 15 April 2021, at 3am AEST.
