2014-17 Peugeot 208, 2008 and 3008, 2015-17 Citroen C4 and C4 Cactus recalled with brake fault

Braking function could be severely hampered by a power assistance fault, according to the recall notice.

Inchcape Australia – the local distributor for Peugeot and Citroen – has recalled 2981 vehicles, citing a potential braking system fault.

The affected vehicles – which comprise examples of the Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008, Peugeot 308, Citroen C4, and Citroen C4 Cactus – were sold between 1 September 2014 aqnd 30 June 2017 (Model Years 2014 to 2017).

The recall notices (which can be viewed here and here), lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), say: “The braking system’s power assistance may be lost or reduced. This is due to a reduction of available vacuum in the system due to degradation of the timing belt if affected by aged engine oil.”

“While the brakes will still be operable, if power assistance is reduced or lost, there is an increased risk of a collision, which could result in injury or death of vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the notice continues.

A spokesperson for Inchcape told CarAdvice there have been no recorded instances of the fault in Australia, and this recall is purely precautionary.
