1994 Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R Tommykaira R offered for $328,000

An ultra-rare Japanese hero car of the 1990s has come up for sale, with a price to match.

One of 400 Tommykaira R models has come up for sale in Australia, based on the 1994 Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R.

With an asking price of $328,000, the Nissan is believed to be one of only a handful of genuine Tommykaira Skylines in the country, and remains in showroom condition with less than 14,000km on the clock.

Powered by a 2.6-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder driving all four wheels through a five-speed manual, outputs are said to sit around 257kW and 353Nm.

While those figures aren't overly impressive by today's standards, it was more powerful than the significantly more expensive BMW E34 M5 and Ferrari 348 of the same year.

Tommykaira is a Japanese company best-known for modifying predominantly Nissan and Subaru models from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, as well as manufacturing its own unique vehicles – typically fitted with Nissan powertrains.

The Tommykaira brand was introduced to car enthusiasts outside of Japan thanks to early versions of the Gran Turismo video game, which featured a number of its models.
