2021 SsangYong Rexton price and specs: Range reduced, power added
The seven-seat Rexton 4WD range has been facelifted, with fewer variants but more power.
- 2021 SsangYong Rexton pricing and specifications released
- Range reduced to two variants, ELX and Ultimate
- Variants rise by $1000 and $2000 respectively
- Engine power increased to 148kW/441Nm
- Priced from $47,990 drive-away
The 2021 SsangYong Rexton has gone on sale, with two facelifted models available in Australia.
As reported by CarAdvice last month, SsangYong has dropped the entry-level EX variant from the Rexton line-up, instead offering just the ELX and Ultimate – with the cost of entry into the Rexton range now $8000 more than when the EX was available.
While the ELX costs $1000 more and the Ultimate $2000 more than their pre-facelift pricetags, buyers do get more power and fresh looks.
The updated Rexton gets an extra 15kW and 21Nm from its 2.2-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine, for a total of 148kW/441Nm, mated to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
The seven-seater has proper off-road credentials too, with low-range four-wheel drive and an auto-locking rear differential, with the ability to tow up to 3500kg.
Inside, the driver gets a leather steering wheel and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while front-row occupants can access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through an 8.0-inch infotainment screen. Dual-zone climate control is standard, as is keyless entry and start.
All seats are upholstered in synthetic leather, with heating in the first two rows, and power and ventilation for the driver and front passenger.
Step up to the Ultimate, and buyers gain wireless smartphone charging, 360-degree cameras, a heated steering wheel, power tailgate, sunroof, ambient lighting, and 'premium' leather upholstery.
On the safety front, the Rexton gets autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, cruise control, trailer-sway assist, front and rear parking sensors, tyre-pressure monitoring system, and nine airbags.
A set of 18-inch alloy wheels comes as standard on the ELX, but the Ultimate steps up to 20-inch alloys. Auto high-beams and LED headlights are also standard.
The SsangYong Rexton comes with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, and is available to order now.
