2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss price and specs

Forget Holden versus Ford, there’s a new battle brewing between Chevrolet and Ram in the US pick-up market in Australia, with the announcement of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss for Australia.

  • Off-road focused pick-up in showrooms between April and June inclusive
  • Lift kit, black wheels, off-road kit headline changes
  • Priced from $106,990 before on-road costs

After the runaway success of Ram Trucks – selling more than 8000 pick-ups since the brand was established locally – arch rival General Motors is about to shift into gear having set up shop as General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) in the wake of Holden’s demise.

GMSV’s first point of business is a new cut-price version of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 called the LT Trail Boss, which comes with tough looks and an off-road package.

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss will be priced from $106,990 plus on-road costs when it arrives in Australian GMSV showrooms by the middle of this year.

This price undercuts the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ introduced by HSV last year from $113,990 plus on-road costs – and undercuts the new-generation Ram 1500 DT Series which starts from $114,950 plus on-road costs.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ will continue to be sold alongside the Trail Boss, but the chrome-covered model will wear Chevrolet’s traditional gold rather than black “bow tie” badging favoured by HSV.

GMSV says the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss will come with a suspension lift kit, which increases ride height by approximately 25mm at the front and 30mm at the rear.

GMSV says Rancho monotube shocks provide better damping – on-road and off-road.

The Trail Boss is also equipped with a mechanical rear locking differential, 18-inch black alloy wheels, hill descent control, a heavy-duty air filter and underbody protection “skid” plates.

Inside, there are 10-way powered and heated front cloth seats – and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The LT Trail Boss is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The column-mounted gear lever allows space for a large centre console.

A remote engine start system is also standard, though it misses out on the leather seats, powered tailgate, and sliding rear window of the LTZ model (pictured above and below).

However, the Trail Boss does retain the following from the LTZ:

  • 4.5-tonne towing capacity
  • Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

In a media statement GMSV boss Jo Stogiannis said the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is “purpose-built, born to perform, offering rugged dependability in off-road settings when exploring on the weekend, but is also at home in urban environments during the week.”

“Based on interest in the Silverado LTZ Premium and the upcoming Silverado 2500, I anticipate there will be strong demand for the LT Trail Boss,” said Ms Stogiannis.

Deliveries of the 2021 Chevrolet LT Trail Boss are due to commence mid-year, and the order books open next week.
