2021 Ford Transit recalled with driveshaft fault

Ford Australia has recalled 31 examples of its Transit van, citing a potential fault with the rear driveshaft.

The affected vehicles were built between 18 August 2020 and 26 August 2020 (Model Year 2021).

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “Due to a manufacturing fault, the vehicle's rear driveshaft bearing support bracket may hold the driveshaft at the incorrect angle, causing excessive wear to the driveshaft over time.”

“If the driveshaft suffers excessive wear, for example in vehicles with high mileage, it could detach and hit the road or dig into the road surface,” the notice continues.

“This could cause the vehicle to be lifted or tipped over, increasing the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

A spokesperson for Ford Australia told Drive there have been no recorded instances of the fault in Australia, and this recall is purely precautionary.
