Around the tracks: Meghan and Harry’s mysterious Range Rover

Plus, a Bugatti goes to the beach, a cheeky Holden ad and a ridiculous towing adventure.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tongue-in-cheek Range Rover

It's been hard to avoid former royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of late, with tell-all interviews, palace gossip and pregnancy news littering front pages and TV shows.

But here at CarAdvice, we're more concerned with what the couple are driving around their new hometown of Los Angeles – and it turns out the answer isn't without its own dose of controversy.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (can we still call them that?) were spotted near their home, driving a black Range Rover Vogue, which just so happens to be the car of choice for the royal family.

Naturally, it prompted questions as to whether the couple was still benefiting from the lease agreement Jaguar Land Rover has with the British royal family, or whether they'd purchased the car with their own hard-earned money.

Our keen-eyed team reckon the car is a current-generation, post-facelift Range Rover Vogue and, based on the black wheels and trim, it's possibly the Westminster Black Edition – which would make it a hilarious nod to the couple's former life.

Or, as CarAdvice's Alex Misoyannis put it, "the Westminster Blacklist edition". Boom.

That, or it's a well-specified black Vogue with plenty of options fitted – let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Whatever it is, while the Daily Mail reports the car is worth £170,000, or AU$307,422, that price feels a little steep, given the Land Rover UK site lists it as £88,580, or AU$160,131, on the road.

Regardless, it will certainly help the pair blend in with the LA locals.

2. This brilliant retro Holden ad

As previous editions of Around the Tracks have no doubt demonstrated, we're big fans of a nostalgic car ad in this office.

As such, we couldn't go past this simple yet brilliant ad for the Holden V8 Commodore SS Group 3.

How's that tagline?

3. This Bugatti Veyron enjoying a day at the beach

What is it with the owners of expensive cars and doing outrageous things?

Someone should probably do a psychological study on the correlation between supercar ownership and risky behaviour.

One prime case study: this Bugatti Veyron driver who decided to take their car for a quick spin on the sand in Sardinia.

Although it's not exactly the natural habitat for the multi-million sports car, the Veyron appears to handle the tricky terrain surprisingly well.

Still, whether you own a Bugatti or not, do not try this at home.

4. The clever smartphone integration in the new Dacia Sandero

Apple CarPlay is great and all, but have you ever hopped in a new car and wanted to skip the infotainment screen entirely?

The latest-generation Sandero, a hatchback from Romanian brand Dacia, offers something called Media Control, which turns your smartphone into an in-built infotainment screen.

To find out how it works, watch the below video and tell us – would you prefer to use this over Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

5. This insane video of a Dodge Ram towing a semi-trailer while going off-road

Mere weeks ago, we were writing about an American YouTuber who was facing criminal charges for driving his his Ram 1500 TRX through a river and disturbing the natural environment in the process.

Now, another American YouTuber has posted a video of his Dodge Ram with a Cummins engine towing a semi-trailer through a forest, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

The entire video is – a lot. We recommend watching it with the volume turned down (or better yet, turned off).
