2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA price and specs: Electric SUV from $76,800 plus on-road costs

Mercedes-Benz has announced the EQA for Australia – one of six all-electric models expected by 2023.

  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 pricing and specifications detailed
  • All-electric small SUV offers up to 480km of range
  • Electric motor sends 140kW/375Nm to the front wheels
  • High-tech cabin and MBUX infotainment system
  • Priced from $76,800 plus on-road costs

The fully-electric 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 has arrived as part of the company's ever-expanding electric model range.

Mercedes-Benz has based the EQA on the GLA, but instead fitted the small SUV with a thermally-managed 66.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack, powering a 140kW/375Nm electric motor driving the front wheels via a single-speed mechanical transmission.

The German luxury car company claims the EQA 250 can provide up to 480 kilometres of driving range on a single charge based on the NEDC test parameters, though that figure drops to 426km under Europe's stricter WLTP test cycle.

Mercedes-Benz is providing a complimentary three-year/unlimited subscription to selected Chargefox Rapid and Ultra-Rapid charging points, with DC fast-charging offering 10 to 70 per cent charge in 30 minutes.

At home, the EQA can be charged by connecting its Type 2 CCS plug into a standard 240-volt electric outlet or Mercedes-Benz Wallbox, with the latter delivering 10 to 80 per cent charge in 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Stepping inside the cabin, occupants are greeted with a centrally-mounted 10.25-inch infotainment screen running the company's 'MBUX' system offering 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, wireless smartphone charging, DAB+ digital radio, Bluetooth phone and media streaming, and satellite navigation – with the system taking into account the car's electric range.

A digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the driver, also on a 10.25-inch screen, with the interior upholstered in Artico. The front seats are heated and electric with memory function.

All EQA vehicles get the company's Driver Assistance Package as standard, including radar cruise control with automatic restart, route-based speed adaptation, steering assist, brake assist, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, 'Parktronic' parking assist with reverse camera, and nine airbags.

The exterior of the EQA is differentiated from the GLA with a black panel 'grille' with a horizontal fibre-optic strip light stretching between a pair of LED headlights. At the rear, LED tail-lights cover the width of the tailgate, while a set of 19-inch AMG alloy wheels fill the guards at each corner.

For a limited time, Mercedes is offering the EQA 250 with the 'Edition 1' package (pictured throughout), which offers a range of additional features and visual enhancements. Those who opt for the $7300 package get a set of 20-inch AMG alloy wheels exclusively finished in matte copper, an AMG Line exterior trim with gloss black highlights, Neva grey leather and 'Cyber Cut' blue upholstery, backlit 'Spiral-look' interior trim, blue contrast stitching on the doors and centre console, air vents in silver chrome and blue, sports steering wheel, AMG pedals, illuminated door panels, Edition 1 floor mats, and a copper-coloured key fob.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 will be available to order from April, with deliveries expected to begin in June 2021.
