Australian pricing and specification details for the 2021 Peugeot 5008 have been announced, with the updated mid-size SUV now on sale.
Peugeot's seven-seat SUV has undergone a facelift for 2021, with the 5008 scoring an updated look in line with newer Peugeot models (including 'claw' lighting signatures), upgraded cabin technology and a simplified range.
Whereas the 2020 range offered a choice of GT-Line petrol and GT diesel variants, the 2021 line-up opts for a sole model designation, the GT, with a choice of petrol or diesel power – though the latter powertrain is paired with a number of additional features both inside and out.
Power in the former comes from a 121kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, while the latter opts for a 131kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder. Both drive the front wheels, through six- or eight-speed automatic transmissions respectively.
Combined fuel economy is claimed at 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres for the petrol, or 5.0L/100km for the diesel.
Despite a raft of new features, prices have seen few increases, with the GT Petrol unchanged versus the outgoing GT-Line, and the GT Diesel increasing by $1000.
Standard equipment across both models includes full LED headlights and tail-lights, a 10.0-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio and 3D satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch 'i-Cockpit' digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, push-button start, automatic dual-zone climate control, and Alcantara and faux leather upholstery.
There's also a leather-wrapped, GT-badged steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree front and rear cameras, frameless rear-view mirror, privacy glass, wireless smartphone charging, power-folding door mirrors, a power-operated hands-free tailgate, blue ambient cabin lighting, aluminium roof rails and a selection of drive modes.
Other standard features include rear window sun-blinds, aluminium sill plates, a black roof, black mirror caps, a sports front bumper design, and dual exhaust outlets.
All models offer 952 litres of boot space with the second row upright and the third row folded, expanding to a maximum of 2150 litres with the second row folded and the third row removed entirely.
Standard active safety features include autonomous emergency braking with low-light pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
There's also semi-autonomous parking capabilities for 90-degree and parallel spaces, Road Edge Detection, auto high-beam assist, and six airbags.
However, despite the shared name, GT petrol and diesel variants do differ slightly on certain standard features
Whereas the petrol features 18-inch wheels and 'regular' lane-keep assist, the diesel scores 19-inch alloys, a more advanced Lane Positioning Assist system, and a 10-speaker, 515-watt Focal premium sound system.
A space-saver spare wheel is included with the GT petrol, versus a tyre repair kit in the boot of the GT diesel.
The diesel also features heated front seats and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with massaging and two-position memory as standard, whereas petrol buyers keen on the aforementioned features will need to opt for a $3590 optional package, which also adds nappa leather trim.
Nappa leather can also be added separately to the diesel by ticking a $2590 option box.
A sunroof costs an additional $1990 on both models. Metallic paint demands an extra $690, while 'premium' paint is available at a $1050 cost premium.
The 2021 Peugeot 5008 is on sale now.
