2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class spy shots

Our spy photographers have recently caught the next generation 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class out doing some winter testing.

According to reports and rumours, the new B-class could come in a range of shapes to rival the likes of BMW's 1-Series - which can be had in either coupe, hatch or convertible form. The one seen testing here is the hatch version.

A range of engines are said to be in the lineup for the new B-Class, including turbocharged four-cylinders, small diesel engines and a hybrid package.

Also expected in the mix is an AMG version. According to reports though, the AMG team won't be shoehorning a big V8 into the second-smallest model. They say it will get a specially-tuned turbocharged four-cylinder. This AMG version will go up against Volkswagen's Golf R and the Audi S3.

The shape of the new model is similar to the existing boxy design but it showcases a discrete bodyline and headlight and taillight changes in sync with the new Mercedes-Benz design language.

The new model is expected to go on sale some time in 2011.
