Gallery: Snow drifting with the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen's latest all-wheel-drive hot hatch hits the snow, flaunting its drift-ready driveline to ease the wait until its Australian launch in 12 months' time.

Volkswagen's new-generation Golf R hot hatch will go on sale in Australia in early 2022, with its long-roof wagon sibling expected to arrive alongside it.

A year from the car's local launch, its maker has taken the eighth-generation hot Golf to the snow to showcase its trick new all-wheel-drive system and torque-vectoring R Performance rear differential, featuring a new-for-Volkswagen 'Drift' mode.

There's even a cameo from the pioneer of the modern Mk8 Golf R formula, the VR6-powered Mk4 Golf R32 of 2003.
