2020 Mazda CX-30 recalled for automatic boot fault

The small SUV's boot may lower unexpectedly, according to the manufacturer.

Mazda Australia has recalled 2668 examples of its CX-30 small SUV, citing a potential fault with the auto-closing boot function.

The affected vehicles were sold between 8 January 2020 and 26 February 2021, all stamped Model Year 2020.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “The boot's power liftgate may partially lower unexpectedly from the fully opened position when the vehicle is parked facing uphill on a slope in high ambient temperature.”

“If the boot's power liftgate partially lowers while a person is accessing the rear storage area of the vehicle, the liftgate may contact them, increasing the risk of injury,” the notice continues.

CarAdvice has contacted Mazda Australia for further comment on the fault. This story will be updated with its response.
