2022 Audi Q6 E-Tron and electric Porsche Macan will share platform, CEO confirms

The electric Macan will be sold in Australia, Porsche's local arm has confirmed.

The upcoming Audi Q6 E-Tron will be developed alongside an electric Porsche Macan, Audi CEO Markus Duessman has confirmed.

The arrival of the upcoming mid-size electric SUV siblings first surfaced in a leaked Volkswagen Group presentation in December 2020, however Duessman's comments to publications including Auto Express serve as confirmation the Q6 E-Tron and electric Macan will share a platform.

Based on the new, electric-only Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture co-developed by Porsche and Audi, both mid-sized SUVs are expected to launch in mid-2022.

While a battery size for either model is yet to be confirmed, a range of approximately 500km is likely in both.

Flagship variants would need to send around 400kW to the ground in order to stay competitive with the likes of Tesla's Model Y, with the power output likely allowing for the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in the mid-three second range.

While a Porsche Australia spokesperson was able to confirm the electric Macan for our shores, the Q6 E-Tron has yet to be locked in for Australia.

Earlier this week Audi confirmed it would no longer develop new internal combustion engines, and was positioning itself to transition to an all-electric future.

The German manufacturer has previously signalled its intention to offer 30 electrified models by 2025.

The entire Volkswagen Group range will eventually share one modular platform by 2030, CEO Herbert Diess revealed earlier this week.
