The 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder has been introduced to American markets, boasting an improved top speed of 193km/h and enhanced capabilities.
America’s only purpose-built, pursuit-rated pick-up truck packs a 3.5-litre 'EcoBoost' V6 engine. Paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, it produces 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque.
To assist patrolling officers with altering from busy urban streets to dusty country roads, Ford has included an automatic all-wheel-drive mode with torque-on-demand transfer case. The new feature includes 4-Auto mode and adjusts torque as needed to provide exceptional “set it and forget it” capability.
“4-Auto mode bridges the gap between 2-High and 4-High, and you see performance improvements as a result. On dry pavement is where you see the real payoff, because it allows you to carry more speed when cornering – a rare benefit in a pick-up truck,” Ford police vehicles integration manager, Allen Magolan remarked.
What's more, the system is coupled with the standard F-150 FX4 Off-Road Package, promising outstanding off-road capability.
The F-150 Police Responder offers a standard towing capacity of 3175kg and an available towing capacity of 5080kg for departments that need to tow a boat, horse trailer or other equipment.
Ford police vehicle brand manager, Greg Ebel explains “Law enforcement agencies told us they would love to add F-150 Police Responder towing, hauling and off-road performance to their fleets, but they need more confidence in speed and handling – whether suburban police departments, border patrol agents or rural sheriffs, officers never know where the job might take them, but the all-new F-150 Police Responder provides a pickup truck option engineered to get them there faster and with greater agility than ever before.”
Also fitted to the vehicle is a clever police engine idle which conveniently allows an officer to remove the key and securely exit without losing power to lights and sirens.
In the cabin, an 8.0-inch touch screen sits in the centre stack along with an embedded modem for wireless updates. Interior passenger volume is larger, while front seat bolsters have been sized to suit an officer wearing a duty belt.
New driver-assist features include a standard reverse parking system and a pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, that includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking – with a unique one-touch temporary disable switch exclusively for law enforcement. Blind-spot information system
with cross-traffic alert is also available.
The Responder can be optioned with trailer backup assist, a trailer brake controller, trailer reverse guidance and 360-degree cameras.
The all-new 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder will be available to American markets in late 2021.
