Toyota Aygo X Prologue: City-sized SUV concept revealed for Europe
Toyota's European city car is growing up, with the X Prologue concept showing the model's new SUV design.
The Toyota Aygo X Prologue has been unveiled, previewing the future of the brand's smallest model in Europe.
While never sold in Australia, the Toyota Aygo micro car has been a popular model in Europe since 2005, built on the same production line as the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107/108, and sitting below the Yaris in the brand's line-up.
The concept previews the new-generation Aygo, which will grow into a baby SUV, underpinned by the company's TNGA-B platform shared with the Yaris Cross.
The Aygo concept also gives a glimpse at Toyota's new design language, with bold, contrasting wheel arches and a conspicuous blank panel where a front grille would normally be found – and perfectly suited to an electric powertrain option, despite executives' confirmation the production model will stick to internal combustion power.
A right-hand-drive version of the Aygo is produced for the UK market, meaning there is a chance a business case could be made for bringing the model to Australia, but at this stage it appears cost constraints would rule it out.
Citroen and Peugeot won't share the production line this time around either, ending their relationship with Toyota as the French car brands get folded into the newly-created Stellantis conglomerate.
Expect a full reveal of the production-ready, high-riding 2022 Toyota Aygo in the coming months.
