Video: Ferrari 458 vs Ducati 1198s race by MotorTrend
MotorTrend always conduct thorough motoring reviews and provide excellent quality video footage, with no silly sound effects or excessive panning shots. Here's one of the US publication's latest video races featuring the Ferrari 458 Italia pitched up against one of the latest and greatest Ducati superbikes, the Ducati 1198s.
Of course, the winner was the... actually, we won't spoil it for you. We will tell you a bit more about the contestants though. The Ducati 1198s features a 1.2-litre V-twin engine, outputting 127kW of power at 10,000rpm. It doesn't sound like much, but in a bike weighing 198.7kg, it provides quite the power-to-weight ratio. Okay, enough rambling, check out the race below.
Now that you've seen it we can say just how remarkable the Ferrari quarter-mile time was. It did it in 11.1 seconds. For those who know something about drag racing, anything in or under the 10 second bracket is Earth-shattering. With the Fezza 458 doing it in almost 10 seconds straight from the showroom, it proves it's a seriously quick car.
We should mention this has a lot to do with Ferrari's traction control and launch control system which allows near-zero wheelspin off the mark. It also has plenty to do with the 4.5-litre, 420kW V8 mounted behind the cabin.
