Mitsubishi Concept-RA

Mitsubishi has released official info and pictures of the Concept-RA. According to the Japanese giant the concept shows that performance and environmental responsibility need not be mutually exclusive concepts.

Featuring much of the technology available in the EVO X range, such as the S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system and the Twin Clutch SST automated manual transmission, the Concept-RA looks promising as the next Mitsubishi Eclipse - only thing is, it's diesel.

The diesel engine puts the power to the ground through the car's AWD system, connected to enormous 21-inch wheels.

From the inside the car uses minimal visual instrumentation and optimizes the switch and control layout. According to Mitsubishi this design will help reduce the driver's physical and mental workload, allowing full concentration on driving.

Essentially this car is a better looking Mitsubishi Evo X with all the bells and whisltes - powered by a diesel engine. The new high-efficiency and low-emission 2.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo-diesel engine with MIVEC produces 150 kW and 420 Nm of torque.

Safety is taken care of by a new body structure using an aluminum space frame created from extruded aluminum sections and die-cast aluminum members. The bonnet, fenders and other exterior panels are made from high impact-resistance and easily recyclable plastic resin.

Stay tuned as we bring you actual images from the Detriot motor show in the next few hours.
