Hot Wheels release AMG-kitted W124 Mercedes-Benz 500E… and the line starts here

No, this isn't hard-hitting news, but if you are as ensconced in pocket-size motoring culture as many of us here at Drive are, then you'll be off to raid the Woolies shelves soon after reading this!

For the 2021 update of their 'Mainline' collection, Hot Wheels have added the most desirable of all W124 series Mercedes-Benz sedans: the 5.0-litre V8-powered 500E.

Available only in left-hand-drive, the Mercedes-Benz 500E featured flared, vented arches, a four-seat Recaro interior and a chassis that was redesigned by Porsche so as to accommodate the R129 500SL's 240kW/480Nm V8.

And now, this rare sled can sit on your desk as part of a Hot Wheels collection.

The update to the range adds another Porsche-fettled model too, the original Audi mega-wagon, the 1994 RS2 Avant. Plus you'll find Australia's own VZ Monaro in the guise of a Pontiac GTO, the road-homologated Nissan R390 LeMans car, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale and a car made to resemble a taco, because Hot Wheels.

We'll be hitting the shelves all weekend to try and find one in the great-pot-luck of Hot Wheels stock finding, so please let us know if you manage to find one!
