Lamborghini LM002 V12 off-roader listed for sale

A rare 1988 Lamborghini LM002 off-roader has been listed for sale in New York, with an asking price of US$269,500 (AU$350,000).

This particular example – according to the seller – was delivered new to a customer in Miami, before making its way north in the early 2000s.

Drive comes from a front-mounted Lamborghini 5.2-litre V12 engine lifted from a Countach supercar, capable of producing 331kW/498Nm.

Power is sent to the ground via a five-speed manual transmission, allowing the 2670kg behemoth to accelerate from 0-100km/h in a claimed 7.7 seconds.

The odometer shows the car has clocked just 18,000km – roughly 500km per year. A set of bespoke Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres were replaced in 2019.

The interior is finished in a grey leather trim, and features wood trim, electric windows, and air conditioning.

Just 328 examples of the LM002 were ultimately built between 1986 and 1993, by which time Lamborghini had found itself in dire financial straits.

A year later the brand was sold to a consortium comprising Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V'Power Corporation.

It would be a quarter of a century before the iconic Italian manufacturer – now owned by the Volkswagen Group – would produce another SUV, this being the V8-powered Urus in 2018.
