Parking pet peeves revealed in study

A study has revealed what Aussies hate most about about parking their cars, with parallel parking landing the top spot.

The survey of Parkhound users – an app which helps drivers find car spaces – found 58 per cent said parallel parking is the most difficult way to park, with reverse parking taking the second position at 21 per cent.

A total of 12 per cent find perpendicular parking – with front to curb – the hardest, while only 8 per cent dread angled parking.

The data uncovered some of our biggest pet peeves, including parking across driveways, hitting other cars when attempting to parallel park, taking up two parking spots, and drivers swooping in and stealing car spaces from others.

Mike Rosenbaum, CEO of Parkhound, remarked "We asked our users about their driving habits, finding that most would prefer getting swooped by a magpie than reverse into a tight spot. Perhaps even more surprisingly, almost one in 10 actually enjoy searching for a park!"

While some drivers may enjoy searching for a park, the majority (72 per cent) dread the experience.

The study also showed the most difficult places to park by state, with Melbourne Central shopping centre, Bondi Junction in Sydney, Westfield Chermside in Brisbane, and Woolworths Marden in Adelaide topping the list.
