Fisker planning an affordable electric car – report

The Fisker Ocean all-electric SUV is yet to hit showrooms, but that hasn't stopped founder Henry Fisker from planning the company's next electric vehicle (EV).

Fisker's chief executive promises a more affordable option – even more so than the Ocean, which has a starting price of AU$54,000 in overseas markets.

"I can tell you it will be a body style that is not quite a one-box – it will have such unique proportions that it will not fit in a segment. It won’t be a sedan, and it won’t be a pick-up truck because it has to be a vehicle that will be driven by a lot of people. It will be somewhat smaller than the Ocean," Mr Fisker told industry journal Automotive News.

"When you see the vehicle, you will immediately realise there is nothing like it. And I think some people might find it a little too futuristic and a little too different in the beginning," he said.

"But I think that is necessary because we want to create a vehicle that goes across social borders. So we are not trying to make another traditional, slightly better-looking hatchback or something like that."

The company revealed basic sketches in late February 2021, however it hasn't revealed many details about the upcoming model.

The vehicle is planned for the fourth quarter in 2023 and will be in collaboration with Taiwanese company Foxconn, while the Fisker Ocean is slated to go into production in late 2021, with deliveries starting in 2022.
