Around the tracks: Shannon Noll is now a car reviewer (apparently)

Plus, Porsche-inspired Nike sneakers, the story behind Justin Bieber's Rolls-Royce and a Jeep Wrangler gets stuck in the snow.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. Shannon Noll trying his hand at car reviewing

From Australian Idol star to... car reviewer? Australia's own Shannon Noll appears to have taken his career in an automotive direction with his latest TikTok video.

Yes, the man behind the classic Aussie banger Drive (lyrics: "I've got a car. I've got a big black shiny car") has decided to parlay his way with words into an automotive career.

Noll took to the social media channel to share his thoughts on the Ford Puma, with a walkaround video.

Some direct quotes: "Wow. Cool little car this one" and "the amazing technology in this car is out of this world".

Watch your back, Trent Nikolic. Nollsie is coming for your job.

2. These Porsche-themed Nike sneakers

Everyone loves a bit of merch, especially when it's done well – and these new Nike kicks certainly fit into that category.

The Porsche 917K Gulf Livery-inspired SB Dunk Low Sneakers are based on Porsche's iconic endurance racer, the 917K, which was responsible for claiming Porsche's first ever Le Mans win in 1970 and then again in 1971.

It turns out the car's pale blue and orange livery makes for some seriously excellent sneaker fodder.

If you want the shoes, they're yet to go on sale, but they'll likely cost you less than the car itself, which last sold in 2017 for a whopping US$14 million (AU$17.8 million).

3. The story behind Justin Bieber's floating Rolls-Royce

We've previously written about Justin Bieber's incredibly unique custom Rolls-Royce Wraith being sighted on the streets of Los Angeles, but now we finally have the origin story behind the bizarre car.

In a new YouTube video, LA tuning shop West Coast Customs has detailed the three-year journey to bring the car to life.

It turns out it's based on the all-electric Rolls-Royce 103EX concept car, which Bieber saw and initially wanted to buy for himself.

Instead, he turned to West Coast Customs to create a driveable version of the space-age concept, based on a road-legal Wraith.

To see the process, watch the video below:

4. This video of a Jeep Wrangler being rescued from the snow

If you like niche viewing, then this YouTube channel might be for you. 'Matt's Off Road Recovery' details real-life rescue missions of vehicles that get stuck in southern Utah.

Their latest rescue mission involves a Jeep Wrangler that bit off more than it could chew on the side of a snowy mountain.

While the off-roader couldn't tackle the terrain, the snow cat came to the rescue, heroically pulling the Jeep out. Watch the valiant efforts below.

5. This clip of Daft Punk driving a 1987 Ferrari 412 in the desert

In the CarAdvice Melbourne office this week, we began discussing the under-appreciated retro cars that deserved more credit for their design.

The Ferrari 412 was mentioned a couple of times, prompting us to revisit the ultra-cool scene in DJ duo Daft Punk's movie Electroma where they drive a 1987 example through the desert.

Then, coincidentally, Daft Punk announced they were breaking up only days later.

So, we felt it was a fitting tribute to once again share this engrossing, trance-like clip that might just be the coolest thing we've ever seen.
