2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line price and specs: Turbo mid-size sedan to lob mid-year priced from $50,990

Australian pricing and specifications for the 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line have been announced.

  • 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line price and specs detailed
  • New mid-size sedan to launch only in 213kW N Line trim
  • Long standard equipment list, including digital instruments, 19-inch wheels
  • Delayed to mid-year, priced from a hair over $50,000

The new mid-sized Hyundai sedan will launch in Australia in mid-2021 in performance-focused N Line form only, priced from $50,990 before on-road costs.

That's up $5500 over the last turbocharged Sonata sold Down Under, phased out in 2020 – though the new model packs greater amounts of standard equipment and a more potent, performance-oriented punch.

Under the bonnet of the N Line is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 213kW and 422Nm to the front wheels through an eight-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Launch control, paddle shifters and rev-matching are standard-fit, as is a quarter of drive modes – Normal, Sport, Sport+ and Custom – and an 'N Power Shift' feature that keeps the throttle open during upshifts under hard acceleration to "push occupants back into their seat, as they would be during quick [upshifts] in a manual transmission vehicle."

Standard equipment includes the aforementioned performance features, plus an N Line sports body kit with unique bumpers and side skirts, 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Continental tyres, a nappa leather and suede interior, heated and ventilated sports bucket seats (with 12-way driver and 4-way passenger power adjustment), driver's seat memory, and heated outboard rear seats.

They're joined by a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with (wired) Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, wireless smartphone charging, full LED headlights, LED daytime-running lights, LED 'combination' tail-lights, and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Other standard inclusions comprise dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, heated power-folding side mirrors, a power-operated rear window 'curtain', manual rear side window blinds, a shift-by-wire gear selector, an electronic parking brake, electronic child locks and an electrochromatic rear-view mirror.

A wide suite of safety technologies are standard-fit, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, lane following assist, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and support for intersections, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, with the latter two systems capable of detecting and braking for obstacles.

There's also a Blind-Spot View Monitor – which projects a camera feed from the side mirrors into the instrument cluster when changing lanes – plus driver attention monitoring, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree camera and Safe Exit Assist, which prevents the rear doors from being opened if an oncoming car, bike or other hazard is detected.

White Cream, Hampton Grey, Flame Red and Midnight Black exterior colours will be offered, with all bar White Cream commanding a $595 premium.

A five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty is standard on the Sonata N Line.

The 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line will go on sale in mid-2021 – around three months after it was last forecast in late 2020 to arrive, and more than six months since the sporty range-topper was confirmed to arrive at its unveiling in September 2020.
