2021 Ram 1500 TRX orders open in Australia, prices yet to be announced

Order books are open for the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX supercharged V8 – and customers are already placing deposits without knowing the price.

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX supercharged V8 – the fastest and most powerful full-size pick-up in the world – is due in local showrooms by the end of this year.

The official importer Ram Trucks Australia has begun taking “expressions of interest” via its website while dealers across the country have reportedly already taken orders even though price is yet to be announced.

A notification on the Ram Trucks Australia website says it is “working closely with our colleagues in the US to bring the TRX to Australia in 2021”.

“Express your interest now so we can keep you in the loop when more information becomes available. Exciting times,” the message continues.

With a supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8 and all-wheel-drive the Ram 1500 TRX is the fastest and most powerful road-registered, showroom-ready, full-size pick-up in the world.

Described as the “apex predator” of the pick-up world, the Ram 1500 TRX is expected to cost close to or in excess of $180,000 in Australia.

Exact timing and pricing are yet to be announced but CarAdvice understands the Ram 1500 TRX will begin arriving in Australian showrooms in limited numbers from the end of this year.

As reported earlier, the Ram 1500 TRX is a rival to the Ford F-150 Raptor in the US.

Its supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8 is shared with the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and has an astonishing output of 700 horsepower, which is more than one of Australia’s V8 Supercar racing cars.

In modern terms the supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8 has an output of 523kW and 881Nm, however these numbers are yet to be confirmed for Australia.

Matched to an eight-speed auto, Ram claims the TRX does the 0 to 60mph (96kmh) dash in 4.5 seconds and the quarter mile (400m) run in 12.9 seconds at 108mph (174kmh). Top speed is rated at 189kmh.

Weighing more than 2.7-tonnes, it’s expected to be a thirsty beast when its power and potential are exploited.

The 2021 Ram TRX wading depth is rated to 812mm and can tow up to 3600kg. However, it has a maximum payload of 594kg due to the specialist off-road suspension.

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX appeared on the Ram Trucks Australia website as the first shipments of the new DT Series Ram 1500 are weeks away from arriving in local showrooms.

As reported earlier, pricing for the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 DT Series (pictured below) starts from $114,950 plus on-road costs and climbs to $139,950 plus on-road costs.

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is expected to top out the range priced close to or in excess of $180,000.

In round numbers, the launch edition of the Ram 1500 TRX costs $USD82,000 plus about $USD8000 in sales tax. The $USD90,000 price does not include registration, dealer fees, and destination charges.

This equates to about $115,000 in Australian currency at today's exchange rates. However the cost of shipping, the local conversion to factory standards (with more than 600 new parts), and equipment differences to the US model (there are a dozen option packs) are expected to push the price closer to $180,000 or beyond.

CarAdvice has contacted Ram Trucks Australia for more details. We will update this story with its response.
