2021 Nissan Navara price and specs released as new models arrive in showrooms

The updated Nissan Navara has started to arrive in local showrooms ahead of schedule. Price and spec details reveal not all models will gain the full suite of advanced safety technology.

Prices and specification for the 2021 Nissan Navara ute have been distributed to dealers as the updated model begins to arrive in Australian showrooms.

The model roll-out will be gradual, with the first shipments arriving in Queensland, NSW and Victoria ahead of the rest of the country. Initially, only base and mid-grade variants will be available.

Information provided to dealers shows only the most expensive models will come with the full suite of advanced safety tech – and the Nissan Navara will still be without key features available on rivals such as the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max ,and Mazda BT-50.

The first update to this generation Nissan Navara since it went on sale in 2015 is supposed to carry through to the end of this lifecycle, with an all-new model estimated to be more than four years away.

This update was the Nissan Navara’s chance to catch up to – or overtake – the newer competition on equipment and features.

However, Nissan appears to have spent the money on design changes to the front and rear of the Navara, and selected advanced safety tech.

Nissan was not compelled to make further changes to the Navara’s safety systems because it is allowed to continue to advertise its five-star safety rating from 2015.

Under ANCAP protocols at the time, there is no expiry date on that five-star rating, however vehicles crash-tested after 2018 can only advertise their five-star result for six years before needing to be retested.

While the 2021 Nissan Navara has been widely praised for its bold new looks – and the vehicle has already been given the thumbs up from fans in online forums – the 2021 Nissan Navara is not available with features such as radar cruise control and speed sign recognition, which are standard on the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Mazda BT-50.

The Isuzu and Mazda also have autonomous emergency intersection braking, automated speed limit control, while their infotainment systems are equipped with wireless Apple Car Play – features not available on the 2021 Nissan Navara.

However, the safety and technology shortfall is not likely to blunt the appeal of the 2021 Nissan Navara, with dealers already reporting strong interest and in some cases a healthy order bank.

Details shared with dealers show the 2021 Nissan Navara range has been streamlined. The previous DX and RX grades are no more and the line-up now starts with the SL before climbing to the ST, ST-X and the renamed flagship Pro-4X, which replaces the N-Trek. The locally-modified Pro-4X Warrior is due in the coming months.

All Nissan Navaras will be powered by a twin turbo 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel with the same output as before (140kW/450Nm), with the exception of manual two-wheel-drive variants powered by a single turbo 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel (120kW/403Nm).

All models come with seven airbags and a rear-view camera (as before) but gain autonomous emergency braking and forward collision alert.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto were introduced in mid to late 2019 on certain versions of the Nissan Navara, but the 8-inch infotainment screen is now standard across the range and a digital radio has been added to all but the base model.

The interior also gains a new instrument cluster and steering wheel. There is more sound deadening behind the firewall and in the front wheel liners, and the windscreen is now made from acoustic glass.

The 2021 Nissan Navara ST double cab gains a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and rain-sensing wipers.

The 2021 Nissan Navara ST-X double cab gains a tow bar as standard, as well as individual tyre pressure monitors, and redesigned 18-inch wheels. Leather seats and a sunroof remain options.

The 2021 Nissan Navara Pro-4X double cab gains a sports grille, fender flares, a sports bar, all-terrain tyres, and leather-accented seats.

The model walk for the 2021 Nissan Navara range is shown in the images below. Nissan has also provided dealers with spec comparison charts with popular ute rivals.

The RRP for the Nissan Navara line-up shows prices have risen across the range and are closer to or in excess of newer and better equipped rivals.

To help offset some of the price rises, Nissan has introduced drive-away offers on certain models (see below), however those deals are only available to ABN holders.

The new Nissan Navara starts from $32,990 drive-away for an SL manual cab chassis; rivals such as the Isuzu D-Max start from $29,990 drive-away and the Toyota HiLux petrol manual starts from $26,990 drive-away.

The 2021 Nissan Navara ST double cab automatic 4x4 costs $50,990 drive-away (versus an RRP of $54,780 plus on-road costs for private buyers).

The 2021 Nissan Navara ST-X double cab automatic 4x4 costs $57,290 drive-away (versus an RRP of $58,270 plus on-road costs for private buyers).

The 2021 Nissan Navara Pro-4X double cab automatic 4x4 costs $61,290 drive-away (versus an RRP of $60,630 plus on-road costs for private buyers).

Nissan is due to release full details on the Navara range next week at a media preview drive. Be sure to check back with us for more details and our first drive impressions.
