Today’s Ford Fiesta ST and Focus ST likely the last before electric switch

Hot hatch fans likely have only a few years to enjoy the last “analogue” versions of the Ford Fiesta ST and Ford Focus ST.

Both models are expected to be the last of their breed amid a bold plan by Ford Europe to switch to hybrid or electric power by 2026 – and pure electric power for all models by 2030 – announced last week.

The Fiesta ST and Focus ST are developed by Ford of Europe, which means these two models are destined to reach the end of the road at the end of their model cycles.

Given the Ford Fiesta ST and Ford Focus ST have only been on sale for a little more than two years, they have about three to four years remaining in production.

There is a chance, however, Ford might keep both models running for as long as possible – until the 2026 deadline – before a final send-off.

It is worth noting, despite the hype, automotive giants are motivated by money first and car enthusiasts second. So the Fiesta ST and Focus ST will only stay around for as long as the cars make business sense to build.

The switch to electric power doesn’t necessarily mean the end forever for the Fiesta ST and Focus ST badges. Both could eventually come back as hybrid or electric-only hot hatches.

However, it now seems apparent the two vehicles in showrooms today will be the last hot hatches from Ford driven by turbo petrol power.

When Drive asked what the future held for the Ford Fiesta ST and Ford Focus ST, a statement from the company via Ford of Europe said: “It is too early to give details on what this commitment means for our passenger vehicle range in Europe, as we respond to changes in customer needs, other than to state that by mid-2026, 100 per cent of our passenger vehicle range will be zero emissions capable, all-electric, or plug-in hybrid – moving to all-electric by 2030.”

Here’s hoping Ford sends off the last of the current breed of ST cars on a high. In the meantime, if you’re procrastinating about buying a Ford Fiesta ST or Ford Focus ST, best not faff about for too much longer.
