2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 scores minor design tweaks as production approaches
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has been treated to a round of mild visual tweaks before it goes into production.
When we say mild, we mean mild, with Ford's changes comprising three tweaks to the track-focused Mustang's exterior graphics package and styling features.
A revised Mach 1 badge "headlines" the changes – with a new silver outline to provide a contrast against dark-coloured cars – joined by a new low-gloss black finish for the lower grille, replacing the Magnetic Grey finish showcased at the car's unveiling last year.
The leading edge of the lower door and side skirt decal has also been tweaked, with a revised, straighter design intended to improve "quality and production processing" – and that's all.
Unveiled in June 2020, the Mustang Mach 1 aims to fill the handling-focused, track-honed gap left by the outgoing Shelby GT350.
Powered by a 346kW/556Nm 5.0-litre 'Coyote' naturally-aspirated V8, the Mach 1 borrows the intake manifold, oil cooler, six-speed manual gearbox and more from the GT350, paired with a 22 per cent increase in downforce over a US-spec, optioned-up Mustang GT, 19-inch wheels and an array of styling upgrades both inside and out.
Production for global markets is expected to commence imminently.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is slated to go on sale in Australia in the second quarter of 2021, priced from $83,365 plus on-road costs, with just 700 examples to be brought Down Under.
