Pricing for the 441kW/601Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8-powered MP4-12C will start at £168,500 in the UK, while other EU markets will get their hands on it for around €200,000 ($272,000). Australian prices are yet to be released, but are expected to be north of $300,000.
This should position the all-new McLaren against the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Customisation options will no doubt increase the prices of individual vehicles. McLaren has already confirmed the 12C will be available with 14 different interior trim designs, as well as a sports exhaust system, lightweight wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, among others.
It is planning to manufacture 1000 MP4-12Cs in the first year of production.
McLaren says the 12C will be the only car among its competitors to be conceived, designed and developed in a Formula One factory and to offer a one-piece carbon chassis.
It will be the first in a range of high-performance sports cars from the born-again British supercar manufacturer over the coming years, which is set to include the P12 (codename) hypercar and a P13 “baby McLaren”, aimed at the Porsche 911.
