2021 Ram 1500 Laramie and Limited DT Series pricing announced

Pricing for the new-generation DT Series Ram 1500 range has been released. 'Classic' model will continue to be sold side-by-side for the foreseeable future.

Prices for Ram 1500 utes are about to get a lot more expensive as Australians continue to gorge themselves on US pick-ups.

Australians have bought record numbers of US pick-ups for the past two years in a row, and demand shows no signs of slowing.

Pricing and preliminary specification details for the new-generation 2021 DT Series Ram 1500 have been distributed to dealers this week, ahead of showroom arrivals in the coming months.

Further details are due to be released to media in the coming weeks.

Dealers have been advised each Ram showroom across Australia will initially only receive a limited number of new-generation Ram 1500s to use as “demonstrator” vehicles before more stock arrives through April and May onwards.

The current ‘Classic’ DS Series Ram 1500 – which will continue to be sold alongside the new-generation DT Series Ram 1500 for the next two years or so – ranges from $79,950 to $109,950 depending on the model grade.

The new-generation DT Series Ram 1500 Laramie will sit above the ‘Classic’ line-up, starting from $114,950 plus on-road costs. An optional driver assistance pack which includes radar cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, blind-zone warning, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera is available for $4950.

Power-operated side steps add $1950, and ‘Ram Box’ pods embedded in the rear fenders are packaged with a household power socket for the ute tub for an extra $4950.

The top-of-the-range DT Series Ram 1500 Limited has an eye-watering RRP of $139,950 plus on-road costs.

That model is understood to come with the works – and includes a massive vertical infotainment screen similar to those in a Tesla – however Ram Trucks Australia is yet to outline further details beyond what was reported by CarAdvice in this story here.

The new-generation DT Series Ram 1500 was originally due in Australian showrooms in late 2020 or early 2021, however a surge in demand for the original ‘Classic’ DS Series Ram 1500 in the second half of last year saw Ram Trucks Australia prioritise local reassembly of those models.

Ram Trucks Australia was reportedly holding about 900 orders for the original ‘Classic’ DS Series Ram 1500 late last year, and has been working overtime to complete those customer deliveries in early 2021.

With the majority of those vehicles now completed, the Melbourne assembly line has shifted its focus to the new model before it begins producing both the DS and DT Series side-by-side.

Meantime, local demand for US pick-ups is so strong Ram Trucks Australia recently sold low-kilometre ex-company car demonstrator models to dealers for close to or more than full retail pricing.

Dealers are so short on stock – and buyers are so keen – many showrooms are paying over the odds to fill back orders.

Vehicle production globally has been constrained by parts shortages caused by the coronavirus crisis. New technology, a limited supply of vehicles, worsening foreign currency exchange rates, and higher than expected demand locally have contributed to prices rises in recent months.

Industry experts predict prices won’t return to pre-COVID levels until next year at the earliest – once there is an over-supply of new stock.

Footnote: There is still no official word on Australian plans, pricing, or timing for the supercharged Ram 1500 TRX (pictured above), however CarAdvice understands Ram Trucks Australia still plans to introduce the model here in limited numbers some time in the next 12 to 18 months.
