2021 Hyundai i30 N due in Australia in June, followed by i20 N, Kona N and i30 Sedan N – UPDATE

N performance range to be completely overhauled by the end of September, Hyundai Australia has confirmed.

UPDATE, 28 April 2021: Hyundai Australia has provided updated launch timing information for its upcoming N performance range.

The facelifted i30 N hatch will arrive first, in June 2021, followed by the smaller i20 N and recently-revealed Kona N in the third quarter of the year (July to September inclusive).

The all-new i30 Sedan N will launch locally late in the third quarter or early in the fourth, suggesting an Australian arrival between September and November 2021.

Our original story continues unchanged below, containing earlier info no longer completely up-to-date.

18 February 2021: Hyundai Australia has released more specific details of when its upcoming high-performance N models – namely the Hyundai i20 N, i30 N facelift, Kona N and i30 Sedan N – will arrive in Australian showrooms.

The second quarter of this year (spanning April to June, inclusive) will see the local debuts of the all-new i20 N and facelifted i30 N hot hatches, Hyundai's rivals to the Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI respectively.

However, it's the smaller of the pair that's expected to touch down first, as CarAdvice understands the i20 N will go on sale in April or May.

The i30 N is understood (though not officially confirmed) to follow in the second half of the second quarter – in other words, late May or sometime in June – with both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions to be available from launch.

Arrival timing for the Hyundai Kona N and i30 Sedan N isn't as clear as the aforementioned duo – partly because neither has been revealed in full globally – though the Korean brand's local arm has confirmed they will launch in the third quarter of this year, between July and September.

As a refresher, Hyundai plans to launch eight N or N Line models by the end of 2021, comprising the N-badged quartet discussed above, plus sporty N Line versions of the i30 Sedan (on sale now), Sonata sedan (delayed to mid-year) and Tucson mid-size SUV (due in April).

The Ford Fiesta ST-rivalling i20 N mates a 150kW/275Nm 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder to a six-speed manual gearbox, while the one-size-up i30 N hot hatch, Kona N sports SUV and i30 Sedan N score a 206kW/392Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch auto or, in the i30 twins, a standard-fit six-speed manual.

All models are front-wheel-drive, feature (or are expected to feature) limited-slip front differentials, and benefit from a Nurburgring-tuned chassis for a sharper driving experience.
