Around the tracks: A Ford F-150 slides down an icy road in the US

Plus, the ultimate Hot Wheels track, an F1 driver's unusual exercise routine and a 'Merlin' edition McLaren Senna.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. This Ford F-150 drifting down an icy road in the United States

While we're in the grips of a hot summer, our friends in the US are grappling with surprise snow and winter storms (not to mention the rampant coronavirus).

And in case you needed further evidence of just how cold it can get over there, this video captured by security cameras in residential Tennessee really paints a picture.

The footage shows a Ford F-150 pick-up truck pulling out of the driveway before losing grip on the ice-covered street and slowing sliding off down a hill.

Apparently, the driver kept his cool while the car slid 137 metres, slowing to a stop before gently hitting a car parked at the bottom of the hill. Phew.

2. The ultimate homemade Hot Wheels track

If you were obsessed with Hot Wheels as a child (or even as an adult) you'll likely have at one point attempted to create a lengthy, complicated track around your home that's either collapsed in a heap or only partially worked.

So, you'll hopefully get a sense of satisfaction from this YouTube video, in which a camera mounted to a Hot Wheels car completes the circuit of a lifetime.

Childhood dreams fulfilled...

3. F1 driver Max Verstappen's unusual neck exercises

Red Bull Formula One driver Max Verstappen has amassed 4 million followers on Instagram by showcasing his lavish Monaco-based lifestyle.

A large portion of his posts, however, centre around his rigorous workout routine, and some snaps are certainly less conventional than others.

In recent weeks, the 23-year-old has shared photos of his uncomfortable-looking neck exercises, which range from weight-lifting to stretches to neck-planking.

As pointed out by Dmargethese exercises serve a very important purpose by assisting drivers in protecting their necks from the massive g-forces they encounter on the track.

Still, we recommend you don't try these at home...

4. This McLaren Senna 'Merlin' edition

There are some car paint colours that sound cooler than they are – Suzuki's Chiffon Ivory, for example – and then there are others that well and truly live up to their name.

This McLaren Senna 'Merlin' edition that's up for sale on Bring A Trailer in the US is finished in the custom paint shade of 'Sorcerer Black'.

And, ah, let's just say it's exactly what you'd expect a shade called 'Sorcerer Black' to look like!

Currently located in California, the V8-powered supercar is a one-off special edition of the Senna named after Darren “Merlin” Townsend, bespoke paint principal at McLaren's Special Operations, which created the wizarding shade.

And it can be yours for US$900,000 (AU$1.16 million) – and counting!

5. This vintage photo, which captures every Ferrari lover's fantasy

For any Ferrari fans out there (cough, CarAdvice's Emma Notarfrancesco, cough), perhaps the pinnacle of the prancing horse experience looks a little something like this photo of the Ferrari factory in Maranello.

So many 288 GTOs, so little time...
