2021 Ford Ranger price and specs: XL Tradie special-edition arrives with standard-fit accessories

Limited-run workhorse ute touches down with attractive price and standard-fit genuine accessories.

  • 2021 Ford Ranger XL Tradie price and specs detailed
  • Special-edition model priced from $47,990 drive-away
  • Nudge bar, side steps, towbar and alloy wheels headline inclusions
  • On sale now in limited numbers

Pricing and specification details of the 2021 Ford Ranger XL Tradie have been confirmed, with the special-edition, work-focused dual-cab now on route to showrooms.

Based on the lower-spec Ranger XL 4x4 Double Cab Pick-Up variant, the XL Tradie is pitched at "customers looking for a work-ready pick-up", according to Ford. The vehicle features a range of factory-fitted accessories as standard equipment, namely a black nudge bar, a 521mm Lumen slimline LED light bar, unique 16-inch black alloy wheels, black side steps, a tow bar and a bed liner.

Pricing starts from $52,190 before on-road costs or, for a limited time, $47,990 drive-away – $1000 more expensive than the variant it's based on before on-road costs, but around $10,000 cheaper once the drive-away launch deal is added.

Ford has confirmed the Tradie is a limited-run variant offered in a finite number of units in Australia, but hasn't detailed how many examples will be built.

Aside from the aforementioned additions, the special-edition is otherwise unchanged versus the aforementioned XL 4x4 variant on which it's based, with standard equipment including an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and single-zone manual climate control.

Also standard is support for the FordPass Connect smartphone app, plus cruise control, a six-speaker sound system, automatic halogen headlights, and a range of safety features including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning and traffic-sign recognition.

Powering the XL Tradie is Ford's venerable 3.2-litre turbocharged five-cylinder diesel engine, sending 147kW and 470Nm to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

High- and low-range modes are on offer with the four-wheel-drive system, enhanced off the beaten path with a locking rear differential and 800mm of water fording depth. Braked towing capacity is rated at 3500kg.

A five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty is standard, as is access to a range of service and ownership programs including a free loan car, Ford Service Benefits – comprising four $299 services every 15,000km or 12 months – and included membership to a state auto club, such as the NRMA in NSW, RACQ in Queensland and RACV in Victoria.

The 2021 Ford Ranger XL Tradie is on sale now.
