2021 Haval H6 due in Australia by July – UPDATE

New-generation Chinese mid-size SUV certified for sale in Australia with turbo-petrol power.

UPDATE, 3 March 2021: The 2021 Haval H6 will go on sale in Australia in the second quarter of 2021, the brand has confirmed.

While full pricing and specification details will be announced closer to launch, Haval has confirmed available technologies will include wireless phone charging, a digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, heated steering wheel and automatic parking.

Standard active safety features across the range will include autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic-sign recognition and driver attention monitoring.

As reported below, the new H6 will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 150kW and 320Nm to either the front or all wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The first 2021 Haval H6 production prototype (pictured) has arrived in Australia for local testing, ahead of the full launch in the second quarter of the year (April to June inclusive).

Our original story continues below.

15 February 2021: The 2021 Haval H6 has been certified for sale in Australia, ahead of a potential local launch by the middle of the year.

A filing in the Australian government's Road Vehicle Certification System database – which details all vehicles certified for sale in Australia against Australian Design Rules standards – reveals the H6 will be powered locally by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 150kW.

Drive will be sent to either the front or all wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

For comparison, the outgoing Haval H6 featured a 145kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder, paired to a six-speed dual-clutch auto driving the front wheels. An all-wheel-drive variant was certified for sale locally, but never reached showroom floors.

Riding on parent Great Wall's 'LEMON' platform – an acronym for Lightweight, Electrification, Multi-purpose, Omni-protection and Network – the new H6 measures 4653mm long, 1886mm wide and 1724mm high, sitting on a 2738mm wheelbase – 104mm longer, 51mm wider and 24mm taller than its predecessor, with an 18mm-longer wheelbase.

All-wheel-drive models also pick up an additional 2mm of ground clearance, for a total of 172mm.

Despite the growth spurt, the new model is lighter than the one it replaces, tipping the scales in at 1555kg tare in front-wheel-drive guise – down over the old H6's 1715kg figure.

While Australian pricing and specifications won't be announced until closer to launch, the RVCS listing confirms entry-level models will feature 18-inch wheels, with high-spec cars upgrading to 19-inch units. A panoramic sunroof will be an option on select variants.

Detailed for China in September 2020, available features on flagship models in the H6's home market include a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, leather trim, adaptive LED headlights, wireless charging, a head-up display and an electric tailgate.

Available active safety systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane centering assist, driver attention monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, automated parking and traffic sign recognition.

At the time of its unveiling, a Haval Australia (now GWM Australia) spokesperson told CarAdvice: "[The new H6 is] something that’s on our radar, we’re studying closely and looking forward to making an announcement in the future."

CarAdvice understands the new 2021 Haval H6 could touch down on Australian shores as early as the first half of 2021.
