2021 Skoda Fabia teased, autumn 2021 debut confirmed

Next-gen city car to be unveiled by May 2021, with Polo underpinnings.

The 2021 Skoda Fabia has been teased, ahead of its full debut in the northern spring of 2021 (March to May).

A teaser image released by the Czech brand overnight provides our first look at the fourth-generation Fabia's side profile, featuring slim LED front and rear lights separated by a strong shoulder line, a rising windowline and a black contrast roof.

Alongside the teaser and reveal announcement, Skoda confirmed the new city car will ride on the Volkswagen Group's latest MQB A0 front-wheel-drive platform, shared with the latest Volkswagen Polo – a significant upgrade over the outgoing car's ageing PQ26 architecture.

As a result, it will benefit from a range of efficient 'Evo' three- and four-cylinder turbocharged powertrains, which the brand confirms will be paired to a choice of manual or seven-speed DSG automatic transmissions.

The new platform will reportedly also enable a sharper driving experience, the fitment of an assortment of advanced active safety systems (likely including adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist), and a 50-litre-larger boot than the old model's 330-litre cargo area.

Specific exterior dimensions have yet to be announced, however Skoda promises the new Fabia will "grow in all directions".

While no other images of the new Fabia were released, expect a smaller version of the larger Scala hatch's styling both inside and out, with a sharp exterior design, a large infotainment touchscreen and the option of a digital instrument cluster.

The current, third-generation Fabia has been on sale in Australia since mid-2015. Despite its age and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, sales across 2020 were up 24.8 per cent over the previous year, shifting 805 vehicles.

The 2021 Skoda Fabia will make its full debut between March and May 2021.

While Australian timing has yet to be confirmed – and likely will not be locked in until the car is officially unveiled – it’s understood the new model will come to Australia, with a local launch likely in late 2021 or early 2022.
