Jaguar C-X75 at LA Auto Show
Introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, this breathtaking concept was prepared in celebration of Jaguar’s 75 years of designing iconic road cars. Not only does this sports coupe represent a gorgeous design exercise, it also boasts some very eco-friendly engineering—an electric motor is fitted to each wheel with each motor producing an eye-opening 145 kW.
The C-X75 also incorporates two micro-gas 140 kW turbines to charge the battery pack and extend the concept’s range to an estimated 900 km. With plug-in capability, the Jag can run for 110 km on electric power alone. When set in track mode, the turbines bring more power to the picture, giving the car a combined 580 kW and 1,600 Nm of torque. Top speed is theoretically noted at a very rapid 330 km/h. The torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system adds further fuel to the notion that this would be a very serious performance car.
Inside, the C-X75 features some equally futuristic design elements. The driver and passenger seats are fixed to the bulkhead, as in a single-seater race car. So rather than the driver adjusting his seat to find the proper position, the steering wheel, controls and pedals all adjust towards the driver instead. Sadly, the manufacturer has no plans to move forward with a production version of the C-X75, but there’s no harm in dreaming.
