BMW Australia introduces third round of price rises in eight months

The German car maker has increased pricing across much of its range, just three months after the last price rise in Australia.

BMW Australia has applied another round of price rises across its most popular models – some by as much as $6000 – representing the third increase since June 2020.

The majority of BMWs in the pricing overhaul have gone up by $2000, while the smallest increase is $910, reserved for 1 Series and 2 Series models. The increase applied in this round saw prices go up by an average of 1.9 per cent.

The greatest price rise belongs to the X1 sDrive20i, which rose from $49,900 before on-road costs to $55,900 before on-road costs – an increase of $6000, or 12 per cent.

The latest pricing data also shows the BMW X2 sDrive20i derivative went up by $4000, or 7 per cent, to $60,900 before on-road costs.

A representative for BMW Australia told CarAdvice 17 models (and their variants) were affected by the changes, while 16 models in the range maintained their previous pricing.

However, a number of the models immune to the pricing change have only just been released, such as the 4 Series Convertible and the high-performance M3 sedan and M4 coupe.

"The (price) revision factors in the exchange rate, changes to material costs, and additional features equipped to our vehicles to ensure we constantly enhance our customers’ experience with our products," a spokesperson for BMW Australia told CarAdvice.

Of the 48 model variants included in the price rise, only eight appear to have received additional features, with X5 and X6 models gaining lumbar support, and the X7 receiving rear electric window blinds as standard.
