2020 BMW X5, X6, and X7 recalled with welding fault
A weld seam on the front axle could fail due to a production fault, according to the manufacturer.
BMW Australia has recalled 14 cars – across three SUV models – citing a potential fault with the axle welds.
The affected models are X5, X6, and X7 SUVs, all of which were sold between 1 May 2020 and 31 October 2020, with all affected examples stamped Model Year 2020.
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says "due to a fault in the welding process, a weld seam on the front axle was not welded properly."
"The incorrect welding can lead to a complete separation of the right hand side tension strut, resulting in loss of steering control," the notice continues.
"Sudden loss of steering control increases the risk of accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users."
